As a regular attendee and observer of the South Pasadena School Board for the last ten years, I am enthusiastically endorsing Joe Loo in his re-election to the Board. I was a classroom teacher as well as a special needs specialist in the La Canada Unified School District for 36 years. In this community I continue my role as student advocate. After studying the interactions of recent boards, I recognize and admire Joe’s constant concern for our students. He is willing to wait and consider all comments of parents and discussion of Board Members on issues before expressing his own point of view. As President of the Board he has made a great effort to move items along when discussion becomes redundant. He shows integrity while being reasonable, thoughtful and fair.
Joe is tireless in his commitment to the students of this district. Although I have not endorsed a candidate in 20 years, I am wholeheartedly supporting Joe Loo for another term on the Board.

Joe Loo, board president, has earned four more years on our board of education. And SPUSD needs Joe’s talent and experience more than ever.
Under Joe's thoughtful stewardship, and leading by example, he has helped restore civility and unity to a fractured SPUSD, stability to a decimated district administration, and solvency to district finances.
Throughout his tenure, Joe has been an ardent advocate for creating facilities and improving instructional capabilities to assure excellence in science and mathematics. While progress has been made, the effort must continue to assure our students that they have the tools they will need to succeed in the competitive 21st century.
Joe as led the successful effort to improve the nutritional quality of our schools’ food services and restore local control over the food and beverages offered to students.
With Joe's support, SPUD has addressed serious student safety issues at Roosevelt Field. SPHS students and the community at large will soon enjoy extraordinary competition and recreational venues made possible by the joint efforts of the district and a dedicated group of concerned residents.
And, with Joe returning for four more years, SPUSD is poised to take steps promptly to acquire properties, secure street closure, and complete Phase 3 of the middle school renovation project.
With Joe's talent and experience–and proven track record, and with our votes, SPUSD will be in good hands for four more years. Join me on November 6th in re-electing Joe Loo to our school board.

I first met Joe at a coffee I had when I first ran for the School Board.
I was impressed with the excellent questions that he asked me. He was doing very thorough research on the candidates before he would vote for anyone.
A few months after I was elected, a seat was vacated when a board member moved out of town. I immediately thought of Joe. We sat and talked for several hours about issues facing our schools and his philosophy concerning education. He ultimately submitted an application for the seat and was unanimously chosen for the job.
The ultimate test, of course, is how he has performed on the job. Well, he has been an outstanding board member. He is intelligent, calm under pressure, thoughtful, one who puts the students first in his decisions, honest, very ethical, giving, enthusiastic, understanding of the needs of our students and schools, a hard worker, able to inspire confidence (he has been president of the board twice), very involved in the job at hand, and able to get things done.
I am very enthusiastically supporting Joe Loo for School Board. His knowledge of our district will help him to move things forward in a very positive direction. The continuity he brings to the job is very important at this point in our history. Please make the time to vote for Joe on November 6. Your vote for him will keep our district strong.

I support Joe Loo for SPUSD School Board. I have been involved in the district for the past 8 years (2 children in the middle school) and continue to be actively involved with issues before the board. Based on my experience, I feel that over his 6 year tenure, Joe has provided wisdom and leadership for our board. Some might counter with "We need a change." However, I strongly feel the district needs consistency. We need someone who knows what it means to be part of a governing board, someone who is a good listener and who can work collaboratively with other board members. We are moving forward, district personnel are in place, and we have a strategic planning process. I am confident that Joe will work together with board members and the superintendent to gain momentum in areas that concern our children’s education.
